Welcome to your Community Center!

The mission of the Beacon Community Center is to provide high quality, inclusive, year round educational cultural and recreational programming to improve the lives of individuals and families of all ages in Beacon and surrounding communities.

We believe that every member of a community is valuable; should have access to a safe place to learn and recreate regardless of her/his age, gender, ethnicity, cultural or religious background, or economic status, and; is entitled to experience the highest possible quality and honesty in staff encounters and service delivery. BCC has been providing such programming to the citizens of Beacon for over forty years since it was founded in 1965.  Each year, its youth programs reach over 200 youth in comprehensive after school, summer, and teen programs. We also have extensive programming that serves the older adult population.  We are committed to a program model that inspires excellence, creativity, tolerance, and community building.

During the summer months, we run a fantastic program that allows the child many options for creative expression including (but not limited to) dance, visual arts, theater, and music.  This year, we will run the camp program on University Settlement’s bucolic 84 acre campus where children will be able to frolic in nature, be active on the playing fields, swim in the Olympic-sized pool, and hike up Mount Beacon.

Beacon Elders (BE)

BE creative, BE active, BE Social, BE involved.  Seniors are able to participate in a wide variety of programming that attends to their need to socialize, be creative, be active and continue to contribute and be purposeful in their community.  Scheduled activities include visual arts classes, art and craft instruction, yoga classes, exercise classes, and a weekly drop in center.  Additionally they volunteer as grandparents for children who participate in our programs and share their life wisdoms and experiences.

JV Forrestal and Beacon Community Center After school programs

Our two after school programs offer academic enrichment and recreation for 100 youth ages 5-12 as an alternative to engaging in unconstructive and potentially destructive activities.  Our academic programs include homework help, one-on-one tutoring and literacy based activities like the production of a youth led newsletter.   We also endeavor to provide high quality creative experiences for our youth including dance, drama, yoga, and environmental education workshops to supplement  what our children are getting (or often cases not getting) during the school day.

Teen Programs

We currently provide safe and supervised activities for teens ages 13-19 through a biweekly drop-in center on Fridays from 7PM-11PM (the only one available for teens in our community).  Not only are we a safe haven for these young people, but also a place where they can boost their self esteem in a supportive environment and form nurturing relationships with positive adult role models.  In addition, we have plans to develop a comprehensive program including male and female empowerment groups, creative workshops, one-on-one tutoring, college exploration and career development programming.
